We are a media church and are transitioning from Beta tapes and live DVD burns to digital storage. But until then, we record to Beta and to DVD via a DVD recorder. Occasionally, I have to grab what we shot from the DVD, for use in a 1/2 hour broadcast show, but the rip tends to have glitches in the video and audio, most often in the form of an almost imperceptible video “jump” and an audio drop-out.

I’m using Handbrake to rip the DVDs. I can also use MacTheRipper to create a digital file on the desktop.

Just wondering if there is a setting or a workflow I could use to avoid getting these glitches?

    My system is a 2 x 2.66 GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon with 17 GB of 667 MHz DDR2 FB-DIMMs
    running OS X 10.6.8.

As always, any help is greatly appreciated.

    Okay that was lucky!

    I found a fix.

I simply created the digital version of the dvd using MacTheRipper and then created my MP4 by using Handbrake on that digital copy rather than ripping directly from the disk. I still get a slight video glitch, but that is far more acceptable that the audio drop-out. In the past I’ve ended up reconstructing individual words to cover it.

Sorry to waste bandwidth, but maybe this’ll help someone else.
