DVD recorder like for quick FCP output
Posted by Pedro Casais on June 16, 2009 at 2:53 pmJust as we have dvd recorders allowing you to output your sequence real time and creating a dvd file, is there a similar hardware that you could output it as well but selecting other kinds of codecs such as qt, dv… other than the dvd codec?

June 16, 2009 at 4:33 pmCheckout the Elgato Turbo, which is an inexpensive dedicated .h264 encoder that works via USB. Plus, there are dedicated hardware encoder cards, but they are very expensive, and most are Windows based.

June 17, 2009 at 2:56 pmHello,
I’m also looking for a way to record straight to dvd from final cut pro. I checked out Elegato Turbo, but it seems to just be for creating files, not dvds. Pedro, could you post to this thread what you find, and I will too, that way we can help each other?bests,

June 17, 2009 at 4:07 pmSure Sara, but mind you that I am looking for hardware that creates files not dvd’s. If all you need is a quick dvd of your fcp sequence and you don’t have to wait for all the compression time, you can send it directely to a dvd recorder and record on the fly.
what I’m looking for is something like the dvd recorder but instead of dvd’s, it makes quick times or other digital files. Just like if you have another computer and use quick time pro as to take the out of your fcp computer.
I’m checking out the good advise so far we got to make files on the fly.
best,

June 17, 2009 at 9:45 pmHey Pedro,
Do you use a dvd recorder with FCP? I’d like to find one that’s not astronomically expensive that can create high quality dvds. Any ideas?bests,

June 18, 2009 at 3:56 pmHi Sara,
I’m doing some search on this one: PANASOnic DMR-ES35V, but one thing I’m finding out is that we need to make sure that they record both, 4×3 and 16×9 ratios. Some of the older models only did 4×3.
best,
