February 26, 2006 at 3:08 pmI use on all the time. A basic $300 Philips version, but there are a lot models on the market. Make sure it has the I/O you need, mine came with svideo, composite, component, and DV (FireWire).

February 26, 2006 at 4:26 pmthanx michael. can you recommend on one of these models? I heard about the jvc sr-dvm70 which is 3 in 1 (minidv player+hd-160gb+dvd recorder) but the problem is that there are built-in menus (18 templates) that you have to choose from, and make a menu for your dvd. It doesn’t look pro at all. thanx again. Chai

February 26, 2006 at 10:00 pmI believe you’re going to find that no stand alone DVD recorder will give you “pro” looking pre-fab’d menus.
Good luck,

February 27, 2006 at 7:28 pmWe are currently using a Samsung DVDr-120 out of a XpressPro with Mojo. It’s pretty easier play on the timeline and hit record on the DVD player. Does a feature length film well. Haven’t had any problems as yet.

February 27, 2006 at 9:52 pmHi,
I use the Sony RDR-HX900. It has an onboard hardrive. You can play your timeline right into the hardrive and then burn as many dvd’s as you like. Mine has a 160gb drive so I can store a lot. It is a great quick solution to get something out on a DVD. It is pricey, but works great.Hope this helps.

February 28, 2006 at 10:21 amthanx. can I use the dvd recorders you’ve mentioned only with firewire? I don’t have a mojo. another question is about the menus – do I have to choose from some built-in templates or put in a jpeq or having no menu?
and last – do you know about a good place in N.Y. to buy these tools?
thanx again. Chai -

February 28, 2006 at 6:31 pmWe go straight out via S-video or composite, very basic. We usually don’t make a menu. If u want to do that stuff, DVD studio pro is very good for the basic menus, chapters etc. But u will have to do all he encoding…

February 28, 2006 at 9:13 pmHi,
There are many choices for these. Here is a link that gives you information on a variety of DVD Recorders:
https://hometheater.about.com/cs/toppicks/tp/aatpdvdrecorder.htmThe one i have does have a firewire input. You can also send composite, component and svhs. I found mine on sale at Best Buys. Not sure if you have one there in NY. You can shop online and see if they do. That is what I did before I went to the store.
Hope this helps.
