For years I have produced short movies onto DVD. Last year, one of my customers reported that the DVD didn’t play on a new player. This year, more customers are complaining about the same problem. The DVD jumps and skips like it’s dirty. I compose with Premiere 6.5 into AVI, then transcode in Encore 1.5, create a disc image, and burn the image to disk from Encore.

Is there something happening in the DVD player market so they no longer play regular DVDs?

Maybe your bit rates are too high? In general, most players do well with burned media when video bit rates are 7 MBps or less.

Another thing to look at is burning speed. The lowest burning speed will provide the fewest amount of burn errors.

Finally, consider the media you are burning to. Best quality media is manufactured by Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim, and others. Go to videohelp.com and look at the compatibility matrices for different brands of DVD media.

Ok. I’ll try it out and see what happens.

Thanks for the ref to the videohelp.com site. Another to add to the list.
