I thought I would create a music video with stills pan & Scanning by as the backdrop for a dvd menu I’m working on.

The video looks great. However it probably looks a little too great and now I cannot think how I would put a menu selection over the top of it without ruining the underlying video look.

Short of just creating an overlay on the bottom that covers it up are there any creative suggestions?

An overlay is about the best solution but you don’t have to make it static. I would make it a complete border with slight motion and soft edges that were irregular. Maybe something with a brush stroke. Make it wider at the top or bottom and place the buttons there perhaps integrating the buttons into the border.

Another idea is to mask the top and bottom only as if you were making it widescreen and place the buttons on the bottom. This way the video will look like it’s playing widescreen yet the buttons don’t distract.
