  • DVD made w all regions, will this play on PAL equipment?

Posted by Bill Smice on November 15, 2011 at 6:21 pm

We made a dvd with menu’s and all regions checked in dvd studio pro.

Will it play on pal equipment? Or do I need a Pal master made? I don’t want to make a small run of pal’s if I don’t have to.

    Thanks

That’s a maybe… in the UK most of our TVs, DVDs, etc, have been able to show NTSC for a few years now, and I don’t know of any of the new HD kit that isn’t multistandard anyway.

But there are still quite a lot of older PAL-only tvs around (strangely enough I find them at work more frequently than in people’s homes), so TBH I think it’s still a bit of a gamble, although less so if it’s a niche thing than if it’s mass appeal.

    I think shouldn’t be a problem.
Hollywood movies are distributed as original NTSC and DVD players are built to put out a PAL signal.
, not standard to be recorded on a PAL device (so they avoid piracy too) but good enough to be watched on TVs.
