DVD looks too light
Posted by Wade Harrington on December 7, 2006 at 11:48 pmAfter making a DVD in DVDA 4. The footage is a few shades lighter. Colotbars are also lighter you can clearly see all 3 small black bars. When viewing the small black bars in vegas they are normal also in DVDA 4 they are normal . After burning is when it gets lighter?? Help

December 9, 2006 at 6:24 amYour black level for video intended for DVD needs to be 0 IRE. If you are using 7.5 IRE, the standard DVD player will add setup and you will end up with a 15 IRE black level. I learned this lesson and changed my DV camera to record at 0 IRE. My DVDs look great now. Before, they had slightly raised and washed out blacks.

December 11, 2006 at 3:34 amI have an external professional monitor(firewire out to monitor) I calibrate using the smpte colorbars within vegas. I exported the footage using the DVDA 24p preset. I import into DVDA and render and burn DVD during all previews in Vegas and DVDA the colorbars show 2 black and 1 slightly grey Pluge bar, like it is supposed to beAlso using firewie out to monitor. After the dvd is burned playback in dvd player the brightness increases, everything lightens and all 3 pluge bars are very bright. You can clearly see 3 instead of the 2 black and one that is slightly lighter. My camera is set to 0 IRE.
