I have burned several avi files on my hard drive to dvds using xilisoft dvd creator 3 in order to play them on my home dvd player. I am assuming that the program encodes the avi files to mpeg2. Each file is approximately 2 and 1/2 hours long. When I play them in my dvd player, however, at about 45 minutes it begins to freeze up and continue at random moments. The program is set to burn at the fastest speed (16x I’m guessing) and I’m using imation dvd-r’s. Also when I notice the dvd freezing, I’ve found that stopping the dvd and then starting it again at the same point seems to solve the problem for a little while, but I’m hoping to solve it permanently.

    Thanks,
    JB

Sounds like xilisoft encodes the video at too high of bitrates, which makes your player choke. See if you can change the bitrate setting to lower in preferences. Otherwise, try a standalone encoder to make your mpeg2s.
