Well, I finally got the DVD ripped and the file is joined. There’s 3 files.
    VTS_-1_Stream Info.txt. VTS_01_0.IFO and VTS_01_1.VOB.

DVDa-2 doesn’t like the VOB file. So changed it to MPG. Brought it into DVDA. Video’s there but no audio. However when I click the IFO file it plays the entire movie with sound in WinDVD.

Clicking on the MPG file brings it into Windows media player but only plays 30 seconds with sound.

Am I going to have to get DVD Lab?

    Thanks
    Allen

Allen, in my opinion you could have finished this job a LONG time ago by doing one simple thing:

Connect the DVD player to your camera via s-vid/rca
Connect the camera to the computer via firewire
Push PLAY on the DVD player and Capture on the computer
    Capture and edit in DV-AVI
    DONE

MPG isn’t good source anyway and look at all the struggles you’ve gone through to try and make it work.

    Use DGMPGDec https://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=107731
and demux directly to m2v and ac3 for use with DVDA. If it’s too long video to fit first siply recompress with Nero recode the whole dvd and then demux.

    Hi Ed
DUH! Thanks. I never thought of that! Anyway that was probably going to be my next question. I got to do 2 things for this fellow. First I just wanted to get the opriginal MPG off and add a menu. No editing as I know MPG editing isn’t the best. 2nd I wanted a AVI to show him how I would have done the entire authoring project in the first place.

Anyway DVDA is really inflating files again! Darn!;-( The MPEG-2 file was only 3.6gB and in DVDA-2 it shows as 7.6Gb. What gives? This is really burning me up about DVDA-2, and DVDA-1 did it too. No not upgrading to V6/DVDA3. I was told to wait unitil NAB. Hmmmmmmm!

As I said before you can use VideoRedo only to combine, “remux” or “demux” the video & audio files in order to make it easy to DVDarch …. (open VOB, remux as mpeg video, or demux in elementary streams)…. if you’re in digital domain and only want to manipulate your file and add menus, I don’t see any reason to re-capture your video again just to get an AVI ….. you just need the right tools (sometimes, more than one) to make it eficiently and fast (much faster than recapture) …… anyway, there are always many roads to do something…

    all the best

DVDarch doesn’t inflate files… you must be duplicating your video twice when authoring, somewhere in your workspace…. remember that the IFO & BUP files (from your original DVD) are useless to DVDarch….

EOR, I fully understand what you’re saying. I understand that AS LONG AS NO EDITING IS DONE that is should be feasible (and possible) to do as you’re recommending. However, he’s spent days trying to do it that way without success. My alternative will ALWAYS work – even if it does require recreating the MPEG2 file.

    Hi There
    Well, I just got finished previewing the DVD. Came out good. Finally. Here’s what I did;
Ripped the DVD and joined the VOB’s into 1 at the same time using DVD Decryptor. Process took about 30 minutes believe it or not. Then I downloaded a trial version of DVD Lab Pro.

DVD Lab Pro demuxed the file into an mpa audio and m2v video. Rest was easy following the simple tutorial on MediaChance’s web site.

There was no editing involved with the MPG video. Just added the menus.

Ed’s idea is great becasuse I also need an AVI file to show them how I would have made the DVD had I done the authoring project to begin with.

As far as the inflated file in DVDA, lelt me re-check. I’m sure there’s no double file but then you never know. I may have double clicked somewhere.

So thanks for all the help and ideas.
