  • DVD DeCrypter cracks Macrovision’s RipGuard!

Posted by Michael Ebert on November 18, 2005 at 1:24 am

My company is a DVD publisher, and we just discovered that our latest batch of replicated DVDs – the first that include Macrovision’s much-touted new RipGuard copy protection – are perfectly rippable using everyone’s beloved DVD DeCrypter.

So don’t anyone waste your hard-earned cash on Macrovision. We should have known better.

Just wanted to save someone else the hassle of discovering this on their own.

Thanks for the information! Seems like Macrovision didn’t reach their goal that they were so talking about for RipGuard, that was supposed to be uncrackable!!

I believe thats the scheme the Star Wars Trilogy and Simpsons Box
    set uses.

Was it an 8 year old that cracked it this time or is this still a teen phenomenon?

Hmm. Macrovision claims RipGuard thwarts 97% of the ripping programs out there. I guess DVDD is one of the 3% it doesn’t protect against. The problem is, 90% of all people ripping DVDs are probably using DVDD. So that 97% number is really misleading.
