DVD Creation
Hi, I’m new to this forun, so please be gentle with me?!
I am about to render 32 short films (bilngual Welsh/English) to DVD.
The films are created in Vegas Pro 10c and currently rendered to 1440/1080p wmv files.
I wrote the first DVDs (first 20 films) out of Vegas using the DVD write function, without any menus as the films are to be shown in Local Government offices reception areas on plasmas on a loop basis, so no menu was necessary. I just loaded all the films onto the Vegas timeline and rendered them. They fitted (just) on a single layer DVD.
I now need to render all 32 films onto one, double layer DVD. Unfortunately, the total size comes to around 10.3gb and a double layer DVD only takes around 8.5gb.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I fit these on a single disc?
If I have to re-render the films, is there a way of doing it using a batch processor?

If you still have the original projects, you could nest them in a new project and then use the bit rate calculator and do a 2 pass variable bit render to a DVDA template. That does mean re-rendering, but on a fairly powerful i7 system, that should only take a couple of hours. This would give you the best quality output as you are starting from good source footage. You can then bring that into DVDA and create a DVD without menus (single movie).
If not, you can assemble the WMV output files in a new project and then use the bit rate calculator and do a 2 pass variable bit render. Quality will be an issue as you are essentially re-rendering already higly compressed files.
I use Mark’s bit rate calculator. If you search this forum you can find references and links to it.

The total size of what? The WMV files? You can’t put WMV files physically on a DVD. If you are feeding them to DVD Architec, it is converting them to MPEG2 for you behind the scenes because you can only place MPEG2 on a DVD. You need to know how big they are after converted to MPEG2.
If you have dropped these into DVD Architect and it’s telling you that it’s 10.3GB, just tell DVD Architect to “fit-to-disc” and it will lower the bit-rate when it encodes them to MPEG2 so that they fit.
