  • DVD burning speed question

I understand that when burning a DVD from DVD architect that it is preferable to do so at the slower rate of 4X in order to minimize errors. I believe that it had been suggested previously to do this for the master DVD. I am not sure what the difference is between the master and subsequent DVDs is. When the DVD burning is finished, there is an option to burn another one. When this option is selected, there again is the opportunity to select the speed again. Is it OK then to select a higher value for subsequent DVDs or is it preferable to burn every DVD at the slower setting? If it is preferable to utilize the slower setting, why are the other speeds offered? Thanks.

Yes, if you are going to make a master DVD where a master is the single DVD that you create to send off to a replication house to make many more copies from, you want that master to be perfect. But if you are making a batch of DVD’s, just burn them at a speed that is compatible with the media and burner (i.e., 12x media should not be burned faster that 12x even if your burner can go faster) and you should be fine.

If a DVD’s start coming back from your customers, then burn them slower or use better media (although any DVD you give to a customer should be on high quality media already).
