I friend of mine is cutting an independent feature that I am shooting for him on my Canon XL2, I am using audio tracks 3/4 for the wireless body mics and shotgun mic. Question is, how do you capture audio tracks 3/4 in Vegas. I cut on FCP and Avid and have no knowledge of Vegas.

    SHORT answer; you can’t
LONG answer; Use Scenelyzer, it will capture these audio tracks.
Longer answer; why would you use those extra channels? Using this mode compromises audio in a very bad way, and you can never get it back.

    Thanks for the info.

I use all 4 channels because I can use three wireless body mics and a shotgun/boom mic and have those on 4 discrete channels without any external audio recorders on set.

I understand how it is *easier* to have all of your audio on the one cam, I just can’t understand how folks are willing to compromise what is usually already bad sound by going to 12bit, 32K audio. It’s a significant reduction in quality. Add to it the _usual_ bad recording techniques most videographers practice, and it’s a horrible combination. Then again…I’m an audio freak. I’m also not a 24 bit/192k enthusiast, but I do want clean/clear fat audio.
Processing 12 bit/32K audio isn’t a good thing, ever. But…if convenience is more important than quality…it works.
