There could be several reasons for a problem of that nature from too high of a bitrate to bad media to incompatible players.

I have the bitrate set to 8.2. Also, I am using the same CD/DVD burner as I did using Vegas 6.0 & DVD Architecture 3.0. The burner does burn cd’s and DVD’s, but I’m having difficulty with burning successfully using the new version of DVD Architecture 4.0.

NOTE: I was able to burn a DVD using DVD Architecture on another computer.

Things to look at

1/ Bitrate, 8.2 is just a little higher than I would burn. I have noticed that some players have problems playing DVD-R and DVD+R disks if the bitrate is around max.

2/ Media. Get Taiyo Yuden or other quality media. There is a huge difference in playback quality between good and bad media.

3/ Burn speed. Burn as slow as your burner will allow. This usually yields higher quality burns.

4/ Hardware. If you have had your DVD burner for a while, it may be doing poorly. I have had burners that worked great when I got them but 12-18 months down the line and I get bad burns. I just got my self a new DVD burner just because of this. Don’t know why his is, but I am guessing things like dust and dirt can have an effect on the burners ability to properly burn disks.

You are probably right regarding the age of the burner. I will probably have to replace it and get a new one.

One more question. After attempting to burn seven DVD’s unsuccessfully, I noticed all DVD’s skipped at the same locations and increments on playback. Would this still indicate the burner being a hardware problem?
I am going to uninstall DVD architecture 4.0 and re-install 3.0 and see if I have the same problem. If this doesn’t work then I will assume the burner is a problem. NOTE: It was okay before I instaled 4.0, but things can happen.

I re-installed DVD Architecture 3.0 and burned a DVD. Everything is working well now. There must be some kind of compatability between 4.0 and my burner. Also, I have the most recent firmware for my burner.

Oh well, at least I’m back to making DVD’s.

You might also try using a different program to burn the prepared files. I use Nero v6 because it gives me more burning options. I’ve also read that ImgBurn is good.
