DVD Architect Studio (Vegas) ??
Hey there… I have a question about some “trimming effect” that is happening in my DVD’s.
I am using Sony Vegas to edit my footage and then selecting “make movie, dvd” and it renders as a mpeg2 along with the audio file. My question is…when i go ahead and make my dvd in dvd architect, and view it on my tv / dvd player….there is MASSIVE trimming involved. Along with lots of loss of quality. I’m wondering what i have to do, to make it the best quality and prevent this trimming that is happening! Thanks in advance everyone!!

In my experience, Vegas will only trim the stuff you tell it to trim so I suspect you’re making an error somewhere along the way.
As far as the quality, what was the quality of the original footage like?
How long of a video did you render?
The longer the video, the more is has to be compressed to fit so the quality will be reduced. -
Can you describe what you mean by “trimming”? Do you mean you cannot see the “Outer Edges” of the original video (known as “Overscan”)? Or do you mean trimming in the sense that your video duration is not as long as it should be?

Okay..sorry bout that. let me clear up it a little bit.
Mike – the footage that i rendered was quality. It was HDV footage that i edited and then just down-converted to mpeg2 SD widescreen. It wasn’t long at all….maybe 3 min clip. Burnt to DVD and quality isn’t there.
George – Yes…i believe what i’m seeing is what you said is called ‘overscan’. Anything that was near the edges, is now lost….and / or cut off. Like the picture is zoomed in 1x or something like that.
So ya…..is there any solutions? Thanks!

Since it is “Overscan”, then there’s not much you can do about already recorded video (you can scale it down to fit everything on the screen). Notice the info is still there if you play it on your computer (i.e. you will see the footage all the way to the edges on the computer).
In the future, plan for the outer edges to be “hidden” when framing your shots.
Also plan for that when authoring or adding text to menus — look at help topics on “Title Safe” or “Action Safe” — it just imposes a dotted line around the edges to give you guidance on what will be viewable during TV playback (you can adjust the “safe” margins in preferences — because they change from TV to TV).

to get rid of that overscan stuff? I just have to resize huh? It’s so weird….because when i do the “preview” in DVD architech..everything looks fine.

Thanks for the post. I am also having the same exact problem and fortunatly/unfortunalty mine is a very short 3 minute movie using only stills. I know what I will be doing later…resizing it!
