DVD Architect 5 Always Recompresses
So I dropped $140 on Vegas Pro 10 and got the new DVD Architect 5.2, which isn’t any less clunky to use. Like before, I’m getting DVDA wanting to always recompress my video every time I burn a project. I cannot figure out why and apparently I’m not the only one annoyed.
1) I assume adding markers to video may require recompression of that video.
2) The “menu” that is created requires recompression (or compression)
3) Anything else, if the video is just dropped into DVDA, it should not recompress if it is in the appropriate format. I have .vob files and that should have sufficed.
I’m curious to hear how you guys handle it. I hear I’m not alone with this challenge.

1. Adding markers will not require recompression.
2. If a menu requires compression/recompression, it will tell you that it’s the menu that’s the problem.
3. If you drop properly prepared MPEG-2 (video) and AC-3 (audio) files onto DVDA, recompression will not be required.
Anything else (such as .vob files) and it will need to recompress. -

No, this will not cause recompression.

Yes, the menus have to be compressed.

If you render your files from Vegas Pro using the DVD Architect templates under MainConcept MPEG2, and you don’t change anything about the template except the bit rate and two-pass option, you should not have to recompress.
DVD Architect is an authoring program. It is not designed to drop VOB files onto which are already muxed video objects so it would have to process those to remux them.
