dvd architect 4.0 & pro 4.5 playback issues
Posted by Zack Armatt on June 13, 2008 at 7:30 amI’ve a problem with dvda 4.0 n pro 4.5. I burn my movie all fine. The playing on dvd players is the problem. I noticed that the playback stops or jumps after about 25 to 32 mins. Ive established the reason is that the player cannot move on from video ts 1.1 to 1.2 smoothly or can’t move at all. it’s at this point that the playback either stops or jumped 1 minute.I noticed that some players play fine, some stops and some jumped. when i burn my movie using cyberlink, i dun have problems at all with all players. i tried burning dvda prepared folder using cyberlink and i get same problems. so clearly, it’s dvda prepared folder. Can this problem be solved since i prefer using dvda cos i like the authoring abilities.

June 13, 2008 at 11:44 amIt sort of sound to me like maybe it’s your media. What media are you using to burn your movies on? I’m refering to both the brand (quality) and the type -R or +R’s.
For the best playback on the most players, you should be using -R’s and a high quality disc, not a generic “discount store” disc.
Try a different brand of disc. Your burner should have a list of media it supports in the documentation.
Also at what bit rates are you rendering your video?

June 13, 2008 at 11:58 amSorry Jack,
No easy solution here, the problem rest with the DVD players the DVD’s are played on. Architech 4 and 4.5 burn perfect professional DVD’s, its
just that some dvd players dont play it back as smoothly…..
Hence my solution is….I use Nero to burn all DVD thats geared
towards home/personal use for my clients and DVD Architect to burn/create perfect Masters for duplication etc.Steve Rhoden

i’m using imation dvd+r. It used to work fine with a player i had for so long. My bitrate is always less than 8mb, about 5mb to 6mb.
Also, another observation that i forgot to mention: If the disc plays for the first time in a ‘good’ player without any problems, the disc becomes playable with no problems in any other player thereafter, including the ‘bad’ ones. Its like as if a ‘good’ player sort it out for the rest. But if its played for the first time on a ‘bad’ player, it’ll either remain bad or damaged for good.I know this sounds weird, but i’ll take your advice and proceed to the recommended verbatim discs.nothing to lose anyway. -

June 13, 2008 at 6:41 pmWell Zack,
Iam speaking from a personal point of view but with years of experience
and trial in regards to this. Ive tried all DVD authoring software
and narrowed it down to the two best….DVD Architect for professional masters and Nero for Disrtibution to consumers/clients.
But remember to use the best discs which are,Taiyo Yuden and
verbatim…start with quality discs first, you can hardly go wrong with those two.Steve Rhoden

June 14, 2008 at 2:37 amHi Again Zack
If you get TU discs make sure you get the higher quality ones. I usually purchase mine from Disc Makers.
http://www.discmakers.comAlso I’d say again to try -R’s. You’ll have less problems with them playing on other’s set top players.
On my personal side, I’ve always used -R’s. One time I tried +R’s and got a bunch of coasters. Also I have DVD’s in the marketplace and I never had a -R returned by a customer but 3 of the +R’s were returned as reported they wouldn’t play. I immediately replaced them with -R’s and the customer was happy.
On the personal side with Nero. I never like it although many swear by it. I had a lot of problems with the older versions back in W2K days and never went back to them. Personally I use NTI’s software.

but never to burn discs I created in Vegas. Basically only to create certain audio discs and to copy discs. Authored DVD’s always went to DVDA or I do have DVD Lab Pro I like to use for certain projects.

thks for sharing your experience in this field. like i said before, i will heed the advice of gurus like you and steve. will work with -r quality discs from now on. Will posts results if this thread is still available. Thks again for your time. very much appreciated.
Btw,just curious, is rendering in dvda pro 4.5 much longer than dvda 4.0. I have both installed in same system, is there any conflict? or should i uninstall either 1. I used to have vegas 5 n 7 installed together and work fine. also, which mpeg2 type does dvda work with the best such that rendering is minimised or totally unnecessary. i’m asking this cos rendering in dvda is time consuming. i once authored and burn a movie where rendering was not required at all.only once that happen to me. i think it can happen again but only if i can convert it to the dvda friendly mpeg2 specs.

I understand exactly where you are coming from on your view of nero,
so was i some years back. Hated it…with cumbersome bloated
gibberish of features no one really used..LOL.
But overtime after years of avoiding this consumer tool that
tried to look professional..i realise its hidden power and
versatility..but most importantly just installing and using just
three of its programe(out of about 12). And get it doing things
i dont even think the engineers at nero digital know its capable of.
It came full circle from version 7.The one application that a researched deeply and was absolutely flawless in features and never burned a coaster (which is rare).
was Ulead DVD Workshop, man that software was perfect. But Ulead
went under..and so did its continued development of its applications
SAD.
All in all DVD Architect tops the list especially with its blue-ray
feature update coming out this month, and Nero as aid.Steve Rhoden

June 14, 2008 at 3:42 amThere is no speed difference between version 4 ans 4.5 Zack.
So just having version 4.5 installed is adequate until version 5 is here. And when rendering projects for architect..use mpeg2 with
the “DVD Architect ntsc video stream” template and render your audio separately, doing this moves your burning process a little bit faster.
Thats just the basics for start.Steve Rhoden
