  DVCProHD Varicam 30p

  I have a tape that was shot 30p on Varicam. There is no BM preset for this format, only 29.97. I tried using the 29.97 setup, and it captured the picture 2x slower than audio. I switched over to the Firewire 30p preset and it works fine. What’s the deal with this? Do we need to always use the BM 59.94/60 setup for Varicam?

  Other reasons I hate this format… If I have a 23.98 720 sequence and feed it to another FCP machine with a 23.98 720 capture preset it does the same 2x slowdown problem. I have to capture it in 59.94 and frames are doubled up. We also can not feed into smoke which can not deal with 23.98. ARGH!
