Do you have deck control enabled in your preferences? If you are on “non-controllable device” the edit to tape menu item is not an option.

What HD deck are you using. If it’s the 1200A, Panasonic crippled it by disabling the assemble mode using the 422 protocol. In order to get it to work with edit-to-tape you have to use the firewire for deck control even though you are using SDI for input.

    [langosta] “Any ideas about this.”

If it’s a Panasonic 1200A you must control the deck via Firewire and you must do an Assemble Edit. RS-422 is disabled for Edit to Tape functions by Panasonic.

If it’s a 1400 or regular Studio VTR, then you should be good to go.

Also, make sure a REFERENCE signal is being sent to the deck.

While sending a reference signal is always good practice, the Panasonic 1200A does not need it, and will do assemble edits from FCP just fine without it.

It is the 1200A. So thats the question.

I tried to edit to tape via SDI because I had a serious audio problem when I tried first via firewire (wich is what I always do).

What happens is that, eaven the image is entering OK to the deck, audio does it with a big distortion. Eaven with factory settings this is happening.
So, that is my real problem.

    Any toughts on this?

    Thanks again.

I have had all sorts of problems capturing back to the 1200A over firewire. That’s why I make it a practice to do it over HD SDI – your concept is fine, just make sure you set your deck control to firewire while your output setting is HD SDI.

Herb, I have been having dropouts when I play back what I laid t o tape on the 1200a, and I have tried over FW and your method of HDSDI for video in and FW control. I get the e-02 error when I play it back, but it plays shoot tapes just fine. Any ideas?
