I’m getting pretty bad aliasing when attempting to compress DVCProHD files to FLV (VP6) and mp4 (MC H.264).

The problem shows up in Squeeze before a preset is even applied. It’s also there after encoding preset and filters are applied. Source is progressive and filter setting has Deinterlace turned OFF. All edges are aliased, including fonts–like they’re half rez. Original looks perfect in Quicktime Player.

I’ve solved it by changing my sequence compressor in Final Cut to ProRes 422 and exporting a self-contained qt movie. That’s the only thing I change. Exported file is still at 960×720 with the DVCProHD pixel aspect ratio. Doing that conversion gives me perfect font and video edges. It seems that Squeeze is somehow unable to properly display DVCProHD.

Anyone else see this, or am I missing something critical? Thanks.

    Computer – Macbook Pro C2Duo
    OSX-10.5.8
    Squeeze 5.1
    Source Compression: DVCProHD, 720p59.94
Destination code: Squeeze MP4, Main Concept H.264, Main profile, 2-pass VBR, 1280×720.
Type of destination use: To be used in a Flash project

    Here’s the DVCProHD:

    Here’s the ProRes:

FCP sequence settings the same EXCEPT for the sequence compressor. Could I have an outdated version of the DVCProHD codec?
