DVCPROHD 720p render looks stretched
Hi all,
Just created a comp (inside AE 7.0) that incorporated a video clip shot in dvcproHD 720p and some still photos. I could have sworn I had the right comp settings and pixel aspect ratio. What I don’t understand is why when I render it stretches out the video layer. Looks awful when I import it into Final Cut.Thoughts?

the frame size of dvcpro720 is actually 960×720 with a pixel aspect ratio of 1.33. so it will look stretched virtically on a square pixel monitor without some sort of pixel aspect ratio compensation.
fcp should treat the footage the same way it would treat dvcpro720 footage from a camera though, so there may be a problem if the render looks different from any dvcpro footage you have from a camera.

Yes, there must be a problem, b/c the comp settings I used are exactly that–960×720/1.33 p.a.r. Standard DVCPROHD preset, then rendered in Animation codec. Must be a weird glitch in FCP, b/c any subsequent comps that I created that don’t incorporate a video layer (only graphics) came out fine. No stretching. They fit the timeline perfectly. Hmm. Weird.

I’ve just been dealing with a similar problem where QuickTime Animation codec is unable to carry field information from AE to FCP:

Sounds like it can’t carry PAR information either. The solution is to import into FCP, then in the Browser, scroll over to the right to the “Pixel Aspect” column and right click “Square”, changing it to “HD(960×720)”
