  • DVCPROHD 16:9 to 4:3 broadcast. Does it make a difference DVCPROHD or AppleProRess422?

    Hello

I have a timeline with this settings: DVCPROHD 1280x1080p30.

I need to send the project to a lab for 4:3 conversion for Broadcast.

The asked me to deliver the format in AppleProRess422 1980×1280.

I read that in NTSC, DVCPROHD is 1280×1080 and when exported, quicktime corrects the aspect ratio and you can see full 1980×1080. I exported it to AppleProRess422 and it works perfect.

My question is.. if I have been working on DVCPROHD, is it better to send it to the lab in that format? does it make any difference?. When I export the project to DVCPROHD, the resolution says 1280×1080 and not 1920×1080 like when I exported it in Appleproress422.

    Just curious…

    THANKS A LOT!

[Leon Klein] “The asked me to deliver the format in AppleProRess422 1980×1280.”

If this is what they asked for, this is what you should send.

But it wouldn’t hurt to ask them if they would accept the DVCPro HD. It’s usually better to skip a round of transcoding whenever you can, so delivering in your native format would be helpful in that way.

Interesting that they want a ProRes file. I have always just straight output from DVCPRO HD.

The thing is that ProRes is full raster 1920×1080, and DVCPRO HD is Anamorphic at 1280×1080. If you exported out a ProRes version, it would become 1920×1080. You will lose a generation of quality too, in the compression. I doubt it would be noticeable though.

Give them what they want. Or ask them if they can take the DVCPRO HD…that’s what I’d do.

    Thank you very much!

And the fact that is says 1280×1920 if i use DVCPROHD its not a problem at all right?

1280×1920? You mean 1280×1080. That is an Anamorphic format of 1080…and it is perfectly acceptable. I have output this type to HD (1920×1080) and SD quite a bit. Zero issues.
