Has anyone had any luck using FCP or Compressor to convert 1080i/60, 29.97 fps programs to 1080i/50 for European distribution?

I tried doing a conversion in Compressor, but have jerky playback and no audio on track 3. All 4 tracks are present in the conversion, but no audio on #3, which is sort of academic if the video doesn’t look any good either.

I tried this on 2 DP 225 Power PC’s with a Kona 2 card and a Kona LH card and a Mac Pro with a Kona 3 card, each with the same results.

I think this must be a job for a dub house and a hardware conversion. Any suggestions?

    thx…jw

It is, you simply cannot get a clean conversion with software. We’ve tried Compressor and Graeme Nattress’ Standards Converter and it just does not produce the result you want.

You want to contact PostWorks in New York and have them perform this for you. We use them all the time for this very purpose. 1080i/60 to 1080i/50 or vice versa. They do an absolutely stunning job using a Terranex box and it’s money well spent.

They’ve done about 8 shows for us now and they’re great folks to work with. Just send them the DVCPro HD 1080i/60 Master and they’ll take it from there.
