DVCPro50 and Final Cut 5
I have recently been having problems digitizing my DVCPro50 footage into Final Cut 5.1 Occasionally, the footage will be digitized at 29 frames instead of 24. I have the capture settings set to capture at DV NTSC 48 Advanced Pulldown Removal. Most of the tape will come out fine, but sometimes portions of the footage come out at 29 frames, usually after a timecode break. Does anyone know why this is, or know how to fix it? Thanks.

Hi,
I dont work in NTSC and I’ve never worked with 24f, but I think that this is the use of the Pulldown removal, to convert the NTSC 23’9 in 29’9. I think that there is other set-up without the Pulldown removal to keep the 23’9 frame rate.

That is your problem. When you have a tc break the cadence breaks as well which will throw off the pulldown removal process. You have to capture before and after the break and all should be well. Log and capture is your best bet, do not try and capture a whole tape at one time, especially when removing pulldown on the fly.
