I shoot events on a regular basis with my HPX170. They go straight to the web in h.264 format. I’ve been toying around with Quicktime Broadcaster to convert directly to h.264 with no steps in between. Then I just upload the file to an ftp server. I used to shoot to p2 card at 720p then cut the resolution in half to 640×360 and encode using ffmpeg to h.264.
With QT Broadcaster I can take a firewire DV stream in and convert to 640×360, but it doesn’t look as good as converting from 1280×720.

Is there a way either with QT Broadcaster or another program to take in a DVCPRO HD firewire stream to convert and rescale live to a file?

I have a new MacBook Pro.

(And I understand how the HPX170 works and how it’s 960×540 upresed to 1280×1080 then converted again to either 1080, 720 or 480.)

    Thanks,
    Thatcher

Look at vbrick for live events or to encode realtime digital rapids. both are hardware encoders.
