I have a 720p DVCPro HD timeline that I want to pull stills from. this was shot 16×9 and for some reason I cannot get stills to come out at the same ratio, it always pulls them 4×3 and stretches the image… yea, i can go into photoshop and resize, but time consuming if you have a ton of stills to pull. The other thing I get is a square image on “make self-contained” quicktime, with current settings a.k.a 720p dvcproHD. is there a check box i’m missing here, or some other way to go about this? thanks,

How are you exporting the stills? Are you suing quicktime conversion? If so, set the size to 1280×720.

This is totally normal- in FCP the clips are being stretched automatically for proper viewing but the still output you’re seeing is the most native form. Resizing in Photoshop can be setup as an Action if it gets tedious or Jeremy’s way would do it too.
