  • DVCPRO HD long render in timeline

Posted by Andy Kachor on March 14, 2007 at 5:07 am

I am working with DVCPRO HD 720p60 video in FCP 5.0 with 1 GHz/1 GB RAM powerbook G4. I will be getting 5.1 soon. I am wondering why video in the timeline must render to watch and it takes about 6 times as long as the footage in real time (6 minutes to render 1 minute of video). Is there any way to see video in the timeline without having to do the full long render.

    Thanks

    “1 GHz/1 GB RAM powerbook G4”

I would not try editing anything other then simple DV footage on a 1GHz powerbook G4

    I would. DVCPRO HD doesn’t require much…

Yes. Choose the appropriate Easy Setup, create a new sequence and use that. If you drop footage into a sequence and it requires that you render it right away, something is wrong. Your sequence settings must match your clips settings.

Your Sequence Settings are incorrect. Use your Easy Setup to 720p/60 DVCPro HD, then create a new sequence.

You will have very slow renders on that laptop once you start adding filters. But you can view and edit the footage in realtime.
