    Hello All,

I am currently capturing DVCPro HD 720p footage via firewire (for flagged frames) using the Panasonic AJ-HD1400. The impression I am under is that some tapes were shot 60fps and some 24fps, but looking at the quality of the camera work, the camera man may have lied when writing this on the tapes.

Anyway, in a 720p/23.98 project using the DVCPro HD codec for capture, I have encountered an issue where the capture tool’s flashing red light indicates footage is getting captured, but when i finish capturing and look at my new source clip, footage that was apparently captured is not there… The capture is not dropping out. It just isn’t capturing footage at random – even though it indicates otherwise.

Go figure. I currently have a case open with Tech Support but no one there has heard of this. So i was trying out the Creative Cow team!!

    The following did not help:
    – Restart the system / software
    – Reset capture settings to default
    – Different User
    – New Project
    – Stopping and restarting the capture at a new take (Avid is sometimes stopping the capture – though not visibly – during a take)
    – Setting the deck setting to generic deck settings
    – Different Edit suite
    – Capturing in MC 2.7.8, 2.8.0, 2.8.3
    – Kicking the computer, deck, Adrenaline (even though it isn’t on), the cameraman.

I am using the advanced pulldown cadence, and have not nominated the phase.
I am running an 8-core Mac and QT and OS are to Avid spec. I’m capturing to Unity (4.1.5) drives with plenty of space.

Anyway, i’m kind of hoping someone says ‘hey idiot, tick this box”, but somehow i feel that might not happen.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated. And sorry for the essay.

    Thanks

    RB

    Um Yeah,

Fixed the problem with the help of the amazing Avid Tech Guys.

I was meant to have the project on no pulldown – and make sure no audio is being captured. So it pretty much was a well done idiot kind of thing.
