    Hey folks,

simple question, but I’d feel better if I got a confirmation from one of you experts that I’m on the right track–

A client of mine needs footage of DVCPRO HD mini tapes encoded to QT HD files. My simple solution to accomplish is to get either a panasonic 1250 or 1400 deck and firewire capture into FCP 2 using the simple HD DVCPRO HD capture setup. Then export master clips to Quicktime self contained (assuming client doesn’t want the FCP quicktime capture scratch files) using either the DVCPRO HD codec, pro res 422 codec, or even H.264 codec.

Am I missing something or is there a simpler workflow to this method. thanks in advance.

What does your client need to do with these files? Edit or review them?

If he intends to edit with them, Log them, Capture them to DVCPro HD and simply hand all the files to him. No need to export self contained movies, that’s a waste of time.

If they want to view them, you could export H.264 files if you want.

In fact, once these have been digitized… they are quick times as is, therefore they can watch them straight-up.

If you are sending them to watch, you are right – the H264 is the way to go!
