I have a project using material shot on a Varicam in DVCPRO HD 720p60. The FCP sequence I am working with is also 720p60.

The project will ultimately be mastered in DVCPRO HD 720p60, but I would also like to print this sequence to HDV videotape. I used the easy setup to create an HDV 1080i60 project. I copied the material from the DVCPRO HD 720p60 sequence into the new HDV sequence. But before rendering I noticed that all the shots appear smaller than the full screen in both the viewer and canvas windows, like a picture in a picture. Each shot is a rectangle floating in a larger black rectangle.

Can anyone tell me how I can achieve my goal of transfering this DVCPRO HD 720p60 sequence to a HDV 1080i60 sequence and fill up the whole screen so I can print it to HDV tape? I have a Kona LHe card (but am assuming that the only way to record HDV is via firewire) working with FCP 5.1.2

    Thanks!

You’ll have to scale your footage up somewhat. DVCPROHD 720p is 960×720 anamorphic. HDV is 1440×1080. So you need to scale and distort the DVCPROHD up in order to print out to HDV tape in FCP. Chances are it’s not going to look all that great btw.
