    Hi All,

Hopefully an expert here can set me on the right path. I really appreciate the help.

I have a bunch of DVCPRO HD tapes that I need to get the footage from into my PC based computer. I don’t have the budget to pay a company to import 30+ tapes, so I rented a Panasonic AJ-HD1400 with hopes of importing it myself.

I’ve got it hooked up through Firewire, but I can’t seem to get Premiere CS5 to import the footage. The closest I can get is to get the capture window to say “Can’t activate recorder. Try resetting camera.”

    + Anyone have any advice?
+ Any idea if Premiere will work with the deck?
+ I was thinking maybe I should try a 30 day trial of one of the Avid products?

I’m at a loss and 2 days behind on the project.

My PC does recognize that the deck is plugged in, but nothing quite sees it.

Thanks a million for the time.

We’ve had the same problem with our library of DVCPRO tapes from a past era. Premiere does not support DVCPRO tape capture any longer. However, you’re in luck – Adobe OnLocation, which is part of the CS5 suite DOES support it!

However, if you are unable to capture via OnLocation, you might have to invest in an HD-SDI capture device to ingest with.

You’re scaring me because it sounds like it might be possible! 🙂

So I just fired up OnLocation and hit play on the deck. It is showing the audio but says “Video input lost. Check your camera’s connection and power.”

I’ve never had to use OnLocation. Can you confirm that you did connect the HD1400 through firewire and get it to work though Onlocation?

Any suggestions as to what I might need to tweak to get it to work?

    Thanks again.

Never used the HD1400 specifically, but use AJ-D230 and AJ-SD93 regularly via firewire to OnLocation. Now, these are both SD decks, so perhaps the problem is the HD resolution of your video.

On Location acquires the video at the video standard framerate (720p50 or 59.94, or 1080i25 or 29.97)…so any pulldown and so forth has to come in with it if you’ve shot 24 over 60 or something like that.

Also…I’m not sure how you have the FW hooked up, but daisy chaining and long cable lengths can sometimes cause issues like you describe. Is the deck sharing the FW buss?
