i cant seem to get a straight answer on this one.

i want to work with DVCPro HD (DVCPro100) 24p media.

i’m in a PAL environment, if that matters

previewing out to a 40″ HD monitor.

    is this possible?
it’s not listed as a supported format on the blackmagic site, and one of the techs there said no,
but i see some people here seem to be using it??

    thanks,
    nick

    Hi Nick,

Yes, we include a number of Varicam easy setups for 720p, including 720p/24. It should work fine.

    Hi Nick,

Sorry but I have mislead you. DeckLink works in 720p/24 when using uncompressed formats but not with DVCPRO HD. I’m not sure if this will change with FCP5.

Why does the Black Magic website list support for many many frame rates including 1080p/24,
but doesn’t list 720p/24? I’m about ready to buy, but I keep getting nervous due to lack of documentation.

    Hi Sean,

720p/24 is a Varicam frame rate and we don’t bother to list much in the way of Varicam frame rates as there are lots of them. The only native 720p frame rates are 720p/59.94 and 720p/60. All other rates are Varicam including 720p/24. We support 720p/24 in 8 and 10-bit uncompressed timelines.

That’s what I figured and hoped, but since 24p with the Varicam is pretty common, I was surprised that it’s never mentioned. Nice to know for sure.

    Luke,

So just to make everything clear (I’m pretty darn dense)….

    1) You cannot capture 720p 24fps DVCPROHD with the decklink.
    2) You cannot playback 720p 24fps DVCPROHD with the decklink to a monitor.

    3) So, if I capture DVCPROHD 720p/ 24fps footage from the firewire deck, capturing it natively with the DVCPROHD codec. I will NOT be able to monitor it on my HD monitor using the Decklink HD Pro card either thorugh the SDI outputs or the analogue conponent outputs?

    4) If the previous 3 items are true, are there plans to support it in the future?
