For all those editing DVCPro HD and mastering to 1200A decks, Apple recently added Timecode output via Firewire starting with FCP 5.0.3. So you can now make timecode accurate masters without even the need to Edit To Tape.

On the 1200A go to Menu 507 (TC Source) and change that to 0001, 0002, or 0003 depending on what TC you want to record.

Now hit play on your timeline and record on the 1200A and the TC from your timeline will feed directly to the deck.

I set up my timelines to start at 00:58:20:00 with show start at 01:00:00:02 and now that matches perfectly out to tape.

    SWEET!

Now the decks are a bit more useful…more than just playback or “feeder” decks.

Now if only people I worked with took DVCPRO HD masters, then I’d be set. They all want D5 and Digibeta.

We master on the 1200A and then convert that over to HDCAM later (or D5 in your case) later.
