  • DVCpro HD 1080/60i (24p) workflow with Raylight

We have footage shot on a DVX-200A in 1080/24p but actually is in the 60i wrapper, if you are following me. It is not 24pA according to our shooter.

I used Raylight to pull them into the system with its pointer file system.. My question is what timeline settings do I use in FCP? For easy setup I see DVCPRO HD 1080i60 and DVCPRO HD 1080pA24 but I do not see 1080p24 which is what I would naturally assume would be there.

Does anyone have experience shooting 24p/1080 on the DVX-200a? What workflow do you use?

You use 1080i60. That is the frame rate, it just has the 24p look in the interlaced, 30 frame footage. There is no 1080p24…and you didn’t shoot that anyway.

But…this is they EASY part. Let FCP figure it out. Drop a clip into a fresh sequence and FCP asks “do you want this to match the clip?” Click YES and watch FCP do things right.

K, although the easy setup doesn’t list 24p, I was able to choose a new sequence preset with 1080p24 and then it set the editing timebase to 23.98 and the compressor to 1080p30 with a custom framerate of 23.976 and the interlacing appears to be gone. It also works the same with using Apple ProRes 422 as the compressor codec.

Am I on the right track? I don’t really want to have to transcode all this footage and like what Raylight does.

[Elijah Lynn] “Am I on the right track?”

No. Because your footage IS NOT 23.98! It is 30fps. You shot 1080i60 with a 24p cadence…the footage is still 1080i60. Yes, there is interlacing, because of the pulldown. This will not be visible when you watch it on a proper broadcast monitor, or when you make a DVD.

Again…drop a clip into a new sequence, and let FCP set it up for you.

Thanks Shane, if I wanted to take my finished export to the web would I just de-interlace in compressor then?

I would. Work with the footage you have as is…less rendering up front. Then de-interlace when you make the final.

    Hey guys,

Thought I would jump in on this thread while it was going.

I have shot some footage on a Panasonic HDC-SD100. It shoots in 1080/60i.
Its says that its current frame rate is 24 and I need to get it to 29.97 fps.
I am just wondering what ‘setting’ I use in Compressor to do this.
I have been looking and don’t see a 1080/60i option.

And….does playing with a clips aspect ratio like stretching it from 4:3 to 16:9 ruin its quality?
Or should I be dealing with this in Compressor before dumping it into FCP?

    Any help would be huge!
    Thanks guys.
