DVCpro 720 30P won’t import into FCP 6
Posted by Dave Martin on March 25, 2008 at 8:46 pmHi Guys
My 720 30P footage from a HVX 200 won’t import into FCP 6 (it spins for a few moments and then says Que’d IDLE) but the exact same footage imports into FCP 5.1 flawlessly.
Anyone else run into anything similar?
I’ve imported lots of different HVX footage into FCP 6.02 before…just not 30P…
Thanks for any tips!

March 25, 2008 at 10:07 pmMight this be the issue?
#36 – One or More P2 files failed to import.
Shane’s Stock Answer #36 – “One or more clips failed to import…”
Very often in the field with this camera the camera operator will delete clips from the P2 card that they just don’t like. That is the beauty of this camera. But, the still for that video file (located in the CLIP folder in the CONTENTS folder)…the still that you see when you are in the P2 Import window…is not deleted. So you will see the image, and the name, but the video file would have been deleted.
What you can do it compare the file names in the VIDEO folder and CLIP folder and see if anything is missing. If something is, then you know what the problem is. You can then just import the rest a few at time, skipping that one.
ALSO…in the P2 Import window…in the P2 Browser, there is a little sprocket drop down menu. Click on that and choose PREFERENCES. Uncheck REMOVE PULLDOWN and then try importing again.
ALSO…make sure your file names aren’t too long. Try shortening them and see if that works.

March 25, 2008 at 10:53 pmThanks for Replying Shane
That’s not the issue, however, I found out that deleting anything in the field can be dangerous! 😎
FCP is trying the import but after the little ball spins for a while…it just says “IDLE”. Import is perfect in 5.1 though.
BTW-thanks for all your work on the FXfactory issue…saved me A LOT of frusteration!

March 26, 2008 at 1:37 am30p works.
Have you tried simply reimporting? And is it 30PN or 30p over 60? Just curious.

March 26, 2008 at 6:01 pmHi Jeremy
Sorry…what is the difference between 30PN or 30p over 60?
I’ve definitely tried reimporting several times.

March 26, 2008 at 7:18 pm30PN is 30 frames per second. 30P over 60 is 30 frames recorded with 2:2 pulldown in a 59.94 cycle.

March 26, 2008 at 8:06 pmAhhhh…thanks for that!
It’s 30P over 60 (59.94). Still won’t import though.
My work around is to import through 5.1 and then bring those files into 6.02. But I’d love to figure out the reason why it just goes IDLE…
Thanks Jeremy….

March 26, 2008 at 8:46 pmAlright, so that check box that Shane told you to uncheck, you need to check so it removes the pulldown upon import.

March 26, 2008 at 9:36 pmNo problem. I am equally pigheaded. Jeremy told me the SAME solution when I posted the same issue…and I brushed that suggestion aside. I found the answer 2 weeks later and posted the result…and Jeremy kindly said “Shane, I pointed that out weeks ago…”
D’oh!

September 23, 2008 at 1:43 pmWe recently had the same probably of being unable to import 720/30p. By unchecking the remove pulldown box, we did get the files to import, but of course they look like 60p now. I can’t figure out how to restore the right pulldown once I have the files in fcp? Any thoughts?
