hey guys i have been having some issues digitizing dvcpro 50/ HD footage on my apple g5. It has 6 gb of ram and dual processors. im running leoprard and the newest version of final cut.the issue im having, and it is a very random one that does not happen every time. The issue is when digitizing lets say 25 tapes 5 are corrupt. they are riddled with pixelation breaks that look like rainbow boxes, and also even when there are not those flashes the footage does not run smoothly. its very choppy. This problem has occured on 2 seperate projects one doing dvcpro 50 and one using dvcpro hd and both have been seperate decks. I was capturing firewire , maybe thats the problem. i do have an aja kona lh deck i could capture with isntead. but i feel like its something more wrong with the computer than the workflow since the majority of the tapes are fine. let me know if anyone has any ideas.

Well, if the majority of the tapes are fine, but 5 are not, and they don’t play well on more than one deck, that points to an issue with the tape, not FCP.

You can try to see if hooking the deck up to the Kona LH will help (I always use the Kona or MXO2 to capture my tapes, BTW). But if it doesn’t, then it is clearly the tapes.
