DVCPRO 50 and the HVX 200
I am shooting DVCPRO 50 on the HVX. Running the component cable out to the 17″ LCD monitor. 480i 60i. Everything looks great. High con image. I then download the card from a P2 store into my Macbook Pro and then import the footage into FCP. When I play back the image it is considerably darker then what I shot. I don’t know why. Any thoughts? It looks good in the camera LCD monitor as well. Could something be happening in the transfer process to Final Cut?
Any help is appreciated.

Are you judging this on your computer monitor or external NTSC monitor attached to your system?

I am judging off of a macbook pro LCD screen, but I had this problem once before with a client and did not get anymore calls from them because of it. Same system and same format. Everything else on the Laptop looks good.

The laptop display is not a great way to judge quality as you’re only seeing a proxy in the FCP viewer. I’d suggest hooking up a true NTSC monitor. FCP 5.1 will do an automatic downconvert of DVCPRO50 to DV if you hook up a standard DV camera or deck over Firewire. You’ll get a much more accurate preview. And if it’s truly dark you can apply gamma and color correction filters much more accurately.
