DVCAM capture – intermittent audio/video offset
This is my first post here. Please bear with me if I make any faux pas…
We use a Sony DSR-45 DVCAM VTR to capture video into FCP, via Firewire to a Mac Pro dual 2.6MHz (before that we had a G4 800MHz, but the problem has been the same regardless of the machine.)
After we capture the video and drag the file from the bin to the timeline, sometimes there’s a 24-frame offset between the video track and the two audio tracks. It’s easy to fix: we simply slide the video track to the right by 24 frames, but what bothers me is that a) I don’t know why it’s happening, and b) it doesn’t happen with every tape.
Just to clarify: this is not a drop-frame vs non-drop issue, and there is no drift through the duration of the tape. It’s a straight offset, which is nor present on the tape itself.
I’ve played with the offset command in the preferences, but have seen no change or improvement. The VTR has recently been serviced, and I don’t believe it’s a hardware issue.
Any help with this will be greatly appreciated.Cheers,
BK
