  • DVCAM Audio issue in Vegas

Posted by Mark Moss on May 17, 2007 at 4:12 am

When I capture a DVCAM tape through firewire, Vegas only records channel 1 (which happened to be the cam mic) I need channel 2. My audio file only shows channel 1 as mono, yet, when I put a previously recorded regular mini dv tape in, both channels of audio are recorded.

I know there are 2 good channels of audio on the DVCAM tape because I checked it.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks

Anybody? Surely someone had this problem before. The VCR is a JVC BRDV-3000. Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

I’ve heard of some cameras that record the second channel on 3/4 instead of 1/2. Maybe yours is one of them. Try Scenalyzer Live to capture the secondary audio.

What camcorder was used to make the original recording?
Try using Scenalyzer (a demo version is available) for the capture and see if that works for you.
It’s been known to work when VidCap fails at seemingly simmple tasks like this 🙁

I took your advice and tried another capture. This time I used the DV Capture that was stock on my Sony computer. During the capture, I could hear the “good” channel, so I thought I was in the clear, but once the video was captured and I loaded the file into Vegas, it still gave me the camera mic channel in mono. I can try Scenalyzer if you think that might make a difference. It seems to be a problem with capturing DVCAM.

Thanks for all of the help

It seems to be a problem with capturing DVCAM.

It’s not a DVCAM problem but a camcorder problem.
That’s why I asked you for your make/model.
Also, did you check out the suggestion Edward made?

I switched the VTR from 1/2 to 3/4, and it made no difference in capture or playback. The Camcorder is a Sony DSR 200…… Not one that I normally use. I don’t have the camcorder, otherwise I would try playback through it.

Please just try scenalyzer live and have it also capture the secondary audio channel.

Here’s a reply I posted loooong time ago
Vegas does not like certain DVCAM cameras. If an external mic is used in one or both channels, then Vegas captures the audio stream from that tape as left (mono) only. It does not matter what player is used for capture. The 2 cameras mentioned in this post are Sony PDX10 and DSR200.

As Edward says, easiest solution is use scenalyzer live.

I have used that marvelous programme for last 3 years and no probs.

    Hope that helps.
