Just found out what a difficult process it is setting up FCP to edit DVC PROHD 720p50 footage shot on the new Panasonic HDX 900.

Here is a great how to for anyone needing to do the same:
    https://www.aulich-adamski.de/en/perm/720p50-capturing-editing-in-final-cut-pro

I am attempting to get this footage into After Effects for some compositing work and I have a few questions if anyone has already trod this path.

My final delivery is PAL SD. We shot at 50P so we’d have slow mo and greater frame sizes to play with. The article above recommends digitizing in 8 bit [through a KONA 3 card] over the native DVCPRO 720p50 codec due to the frame size:

DVCPRO HD compression: As you might know there is support for capturing with
DVCPRO HD compression. Keep in mind that the DVCPRO HD format is not using
the full HD resolution due to a luma sub-sampling process. Your clips will be
internally sub-sampled to 960 x 720 even if the of your capture preset
    is set to <1280 x 720>.

It is possible to go through Firewire as well as the article explains. My plan was to digitize in the native codec, edit all the clips I need then export only what I need with something more robust like an 8 bit or 10 Bit codec or Animation as we usually do to convert Yrb levels to RGB for After Effects.

Is this an ok process? I don’t see any purpose in have 3 hours of rushes in a converted codec taking up space needlessly.

Also once I have the 50 fps footage in will it be slow mo’d if I drag it into a 25fps sequence?

It would be great to hear from anyone who has tried this.

    Thanks in advance.
