  • Dvc pro Problem in Final Cut Pro

Hi This is Jaspreet i am currently using a G5 quad , apple cinema display 23″ ,Final cut pro 5.1.4, decklink extreme (6.4 driver) , and Panasonic AJ-SD755 player/recorder. My problem is that while i am trying to playback dvcpro tape from the player it plays on the broadcast monitor, but in the capture window of final cut pro it shows color bars but below it shows VTR ok. I updated the decklink driver from 5.8 to 6.4 the first time i came across this prob. but that didnt solve my issue ok than i tried to take input through composite mode as i was doing it initially through SDI still there’s no breakthrough. I even checked it through firewire mode still it doesnt solve my prob. 1 more thing i wud like to add there is no such prob while capturing miniDV .
I also tried to delete preference files of FCP , created a new user even these things don’t help so anybody here who can help me get through this issue as 70% of my work is going to be on DVCPRO i wud be very grateful…..for any sort of advice….

    What is your Easy Setup?

Are you set up to capture via SDI?

[jas22in] “I am using Blackmagic Pal-DV in the easy setup and i want to get it done through SDI.”

Why? If you’re just capturing to DV codec, then use Firewire. Makes no sense to take a DV signal through SDI and then convert it to DV again.

If that Easy Setup is like the AJA version, that’s meant to convert other formats such as DigiBeta and BetaSP to DV. For a straight DV or DVCPro signal, just capture / edit Firewire.

As Walter says, there is not point to use other method for capturing when you can do it by FW.
What you have in your tapes you will have in your HD.

First you should probably roll back to decklink 6.1 drivers, I think those are the ones recommended for Final Cut 5.1.x.

Also check your Apple menu->System settings->Decklink settings. Make sure Input is set to SDI.

If you still are having problems, try deleting preferences, repair disk permissions and restart Final Cut.

We’ve captured 100s of hours of DVCPRO material this way, with both Declink Extreme and Multibridge Pro on Final Cut Pro 5.1.4, and it shouldn’t be a problem. When you say that miniDV works, is that also over SDI, or are you capturing that over Firewire?

FW also doesn’t help……..all the codecs show the same thing …color bars and VTR ok but doesnt show the preview …
Is there any kind of setting in the VTR thats causing this prob.i want to know. Otherwise my nxt line of action wud be to check with a seperate VTR….

I don’t know your particular VTR, but on all my Panasonics menu item 108 let’s you chose between DV/DVCAM/DVCPRO playback, however, you’d still get a garbled image through even if this was in the wrong setting. It might be worthwhile to check anyway.

If you are having the same problem over Firewire and BMD hardware, it’s probably safe to assume that your BMD card isn’t the problem (although I still recommend downloading the driver specifically recommended for 5.1.x. With BMD drivers, newest isn’t always the best.)

If you are certain all your settings in the BMD driver and Final Cut are correct, try hooking the deck up with FW, open Log and Capture, start the tape and go View->Refresh A/V devices while the tape is running (had a problem like this with a Pana AJ-D93 that solved itself with this simple procedure.)

If it still doesn’t work, and you’ve trashed preferences, repaired permissions and chased the gremlins away, then I’d start looking suspiciously at the VTR. My money is still on your Mac though.
