When importing DVCPro HD 720 footage into AE CS4 the footage is pixelated, very blocky but 1080 footage is good.

Both look good in FCS3. Any ideas what’s going on ?

double check the interpret footage settings (select footage in project window and choose file>interpret footage>main) and make sure that separate fields is set to none.

to make sure the issue isn’t ae’s low quality pixel aspect ratio correction, try setting the comp settings to square pixel if it is using a non-square pixel aspect (don’t change the footage pixel aspect, just the comp’s).

alternatively you can hack the ae preference file (save a duplicate first) and find this line:
“Viewer Odd Zoom Quality (0=low, 1=high, 2=high except for RAM preview)” = “0”
    and change the = “0” to = “1”
