    Hi everybody,

I was reading Martin Baker’s comments about the quality of DV50 codec. I’m just starting a new project which I plan to capture at online quality so DV50 seems attractive as it’s a long form doc with lots of material. However, doing some tests yesterday, capturing at DV50 introduced a trace in the sub blacks which wasn’t there in various UC codecs (8bit, 10bit, targa cine). Likewise, a DV50 timeline showed the same trace with generated bars. Putting the dv50 clip into a targa cine sequence cleaned up the sub blacks.

Any ideas where this trace is coming from?

Also, field order. The default for the PAL DV50 sequence presetc is lower(even) first, is this correct? PAL’s upper isn’t it?

Finally, DV50 timeline seems like a good idea for the ‘offline’ stage because of the realtime FX. However for output would anyone recommend changing the sequence to Targa Cine (i.e. uncompressed) to improve quality of FX.

    Cheers,
    Rob
