DV-to-SDI playout with multiple cards?

Hi,

don’t hold your breath on this one.
BM talked about a possible piece of software
to allow to use multiple cards in a Mac
quite some time ago, but i think the idea
was dropped as i do not think it was a sought after
feature with the end user
(if it was ever possible in the first place).

Well, for the show industry this could be a killer application.
Three or more sdi streams from one computer…
What really is the problem?
As I understand the dv/sdi conversion is done in realtime on the card.

Please enlighten me 🙂

I think I’m pretty sure its not the card that compresses/uncompresses the DV stream… That would mean it should compress the DV after applying some effects and then uncompress it again in the card ?
Today pc’s are pretty fast and can well enough decompress DV in realtime and send it to the simple BMD decklink card.

Hey Luke, we have an application that can address multiple VOCs simultaneously, is there a chance to also address multiple Decklink cards?

if you are looking for a playout system, have a look at Ontheair video
https://www.softron.be/
mail them for the latest demo versions. Their system works with the decklink card, so you can playout all codecs support with the decklink, but only one card/mac. If you want multiple streams from one mac, they also have a firewire version, just add more firewirecards in your mac and hook these ports to multiple external firewire-component/sdi convertors ( canopus, sd-connect) depending on your needs.

Hi Bernd,

Yes, this has been on our “to do” list for ages and other priorities have got in the way so it hasn’t happened yet. It’s not something that we’ve advertized or promised but it’s something we would like to do. It’s a little scary as it involves a fundamental change to the driver so it requires lots of testing. However it would be nice to do so we’ll try to do it. The date for this has been pushed back several times so I’m not going to stick my neck out and say “soon” but I will raise it with the engineers again. If you happen to be visiting IBC, feel free to drop by the booth and let the engineers there know how much you would like Multicard support 🙂
