Hi. I have a client that wants me to bring their DV footage in with the DVCPro 50 setting (not sure why). My sytem keeps choking on the digitize, however. I’ve tried going to the internal hard drive to make sure it was not an issue with a FW drive, but that doesn’t work either. The message I get is, “Capture encountered a problem reading the data on your source tape. This could be due to a problem with the tape…..” I can digitize as standard DV with no issues on any drive. Is this “up-conversion” too much for my G4 (dual 1 Ghz) or is there a software issue I should be looking for?

    Thanks!

Well, the problem seems to be that you are trying to DV into DVCPRO 50 thru firewire. You can’t do that, unless you have a DVCPRO 50 machine. In order to do this, you’ll need some sort of capture device like an AJA IO and capture you footage using the component out of your machine. I have the same computer as you and this is what I have to do to make it work.

OK. Thanks Wayne. And here I was going to get real mad at my computer. I’ll just bring it in as native DV and do an export as DV 50 – seems unnecessary but it’ll keep the client happy.

I keep waiting for Apple to release their Intel desktops so I can buy a bunch of new toys.
