DV to Digibeta via Firewire – No Audioi

Wonder if anyone has had this problem before…
Trying to transfer mini-DV (Sony DSR-20P) material to DigiBeta (DVW-A500P) via a DV-Bridge Plus box (manuf. by Miranda – it allows three options SDI to DV, DV to SDI and SDI to SDI) – trouble is that not both Video and Audio are sent via the box to the Digi – video arrives fine but not audio transferred. On calling Miranda they indicated (and confirmed for certain two days later) that their box does not send Audio via firewire and this would need to be hooked up seperately. I didn’t initially believe this considering one of the box’s options is DV to SDI and a firewire’s capacity to carry both. Anyhow no doubt no audio arrives using the box’s composite AES in/out and SDI in/out connectors to the Digibeta. My tests in trying to connect via composite directly from the DV player to the DigiBeta have been useless too – no signal is received whatsoever although I’ve confirmed audio is def. issued by the DV deck. I’m a newbie to this set up and was wondering if any of the old hands could cast some light – it seems strange to me that I’m needing to send them seperately in the first place and innevitably there is going to be a sync problem with audio drift if there is no TC link between the two decks’ video and audio signal – your help would be berries!

There will be no audio “drift” if you send the audio analog and the video SDI.
Now, as you said, there might be (probably WILL be) a SYNC issue, but it will not get any WORSE (drift) as the tape plays (if its off by 8 frames, it will stay off by 8 frames).
Are you SURE you have the DigiBeta’s audio input SWITCHED correctly?
(There are several choices.)The analog audio input on your DigiBeta is 600 ohm “Pro” High-powered line-level and the analog audio output from a DSR-11 is “consumer” 10,000 ohm Low-powered line-level.
So to get the DSR-11 analog audio to even READ on the Digibeta’s meters, you’d likely need to crank it up all the way. (A good audio MIXER can be used to amplify the weak DSR-11’s audio to send to the DigiBeta.Otherwise, concerning analog VIDEO…
Are you SURE your DigiBeta even HAS the analog Composite input card? (Composite analog in is OPTIONAL on that deck).You may need to get a better FW-to-SDI box (or FW-to-COMPONENT analog box) and transfer that way.

Thank you kindly Matte – all sorted 😉 think the high powered/low powered issue and cranking the levels through the roof did it – but agreed a better box would be the solution…
