dv to Blackmagic 8-bit codec
If I have a timeline with Blackmagic 8-bit uncompressed codec, and put a piece of footage with blackmagic DV codec into the timeline does the DV footage need rendering to playback, I know it has a different field dominance

There is no Blackmagic DV codec, I assume you mean the Apple DV codec.
If you have a fast Mac (dual G5), you’ll get an orange render bar. Playback will be RT and full quality. However, you will have to render it at some point before mastering to tape.
