DV to 8bit issues…still

I still have FCP 5.1.4, and I have heard that 10 bit has a lot of bugs. Will 8 bit still work?
Should I apply that filter to the subtitles as well? or just export a dv timeline an then re open it apply the filter and the re render as 8 bit?

Yes there used to be some problems with 10b because the 32b rendering in FC was buggy.
The truth is that I never sow nothing that stopped me rendering in 10b Unc while I was with FC 5.1.4
Render in 10, 8b or even in DV50, but don’t render nothing in DV.[Paolo Mugnaini] “Should I apply that filter to the subtitles as well?”
If you mean the Nattress Chroma Smoothing…, don’t apply it in the graphics.
This filter work in the footage.
Select Smooth and then Sharp> 411 for your DV NTSC.
This filter works with the condition that you render with a codec with more chroma than the ootage.
So if your footage is DV (411/420) you need to set your sequence at least with DV50 (422) to let the filter
work.
I use it in all of my footage. Before with DVCam and now with the EX-1.
I apply it when everything is ready to be rendered. Sometimes is a bit painstaking because have to be the first filter, so if you have other filters applied, you have to go clip by clip setting it the first manually. But for me is worth the effort. Hopefully some time I’ll be able to shoot 422 and this will be over.

I rendered it in 10bit and it took hours….also my mac struggles playing it back vs 8bit even after I have lowered the settings, but that’s not much concern as I need that for DVD. I am compressing it now….16hrs….. I also had to export the 10 bit to apply a 16:9 mask cause I had noticed that the transitions would spread all over the the 4:3 frame and it didn’t look good.thanks for all your help!
