I’m exporting short sequences for web content using DV Stream so I can convert the picture from Interlaced to Progressive which results in a much better pic in the final result.

My problem is that even though I have DV Stream set to 4:3 the picture is stretched horizontally–not a lot, but enough to be noticable…and annoying.

SD video, Adrenaline on a Mac. Anybody have a clue on this?

Where does the video looked stretched? Is it possible you’re looking at it in a viewer that doesn’t take into effect that DV is flat pixels?

    James,

    Thanks for responding.

You know, I don’t think that’s it because when I go to compress the video in Flash with the proportions constrained and I type in the width as 320 the program fills in the width as something other the 240 (I forget the number). So the file itself appears to be an aspect ratio other than 4:3 and the pic appears stretched horizontally.

However the work around turned out to be easy enough–I deselected the “constrain proportions” box and typed in 240 thereby squeezing the picture back into its original shape.

That being said, I’m still curious as to what’s going on so if you have any insight I’d appreciate being relieved of my ignorance.

Excuse me, but I doubled up on my width there. Obviously the inteded ratio was W 320 H 240. But you probably figured that out

Actually it’s reacting the way it should – TV pixels are not square.
Mathematically 720×480 isn’t 4:3 (720×540 is) – the pixels for SD video are 0.9 as wide as they are tall. Constraining proportions SHOULD give you 320×213, because web-based media is square pixel based.
