    Hi,

I’m just learning Premiere Pro (CS4), migrating from FCP. I have a tri-core Athalon processor and 6 gig of RAM.

I just captured a DV clip, and it is stuttery when playing back in Premiere. I tried the ‘highest’ quality setting, but no love there. I captured and am playing back the footage from a 10,000 RPM Seagate Cheetah SCSI drive. Is this normal for Premiere to display a somewhat jittery footage playback?

Yes, I did capture in the DV widescreen 48k mode, and my sequence preset is correct.

DV is easy even on an old, slow system, something is wrong. The hard drive is overkill and maybe even behind the issue due to SCSI controller conflict or something. Is there another drive in the system you can try?

The only reason I’m using SCSI drives is that they are the only external drives I own, as I use to do high-end DVDs for commercial clients. The DV .avi clip plays back smoothly in WMP, both off the SCSI drive, and my internal boot drive on my PC. I have checked all the settings in Premiere that I can think of, but still get jittery playback. ARGHHGGH!
